Brown Water Advisory - Brown Water Advisory, State of Hawaii

Start Date: 2015-08-24

Cause: Heavy Rains

Detail: A Statewide Brown Water Advisory is issued for the Hawaiian islands. Heavy rains have resulted in storm water runoff entering into coastal waters. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff. However, if the water is brown stay out.

Cause: Removal of signs

Detail: Based on the results of the latest sampling data, all signs will be removed as of today, and water quality sampling will cease for this event. The public is reminded that the State remains under a Brown Water Advisory due to the effects of intermittent heavy rains. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff. However, if the water is brown stay out. Continue to practice good personal hygiene and shower after recreating in any waters.
